Feeds

How do I subscribe to a feed in my feed reader?

Copy the feed's generated RSS URL and add it to your reader:

  1. Open the feed from Feeds and go to the Generate RSS/JSON tab.
  2. If the tab says no RSS or JSON generation has been enabled, click Edit, tick RSS under Publish, then click Update Feed.
  3. In the Links row, click RSS. A preview of the feed opens.
  4. Click Copy URL next to RSS URL, and paste the address into your feed reader.

See Generating RSS or JSON.

How often does Feed Control check my feeds?

As often as the feed's Checked every setting on its Source tab says, from every 15 minutes to once a day. Your plan sets the shortest interval: every hour on Basic, every 30 minutes on Plus and every 15 minutes on Business. Last fetched on the Source tab shows when the feed was last checked. See Source settings and Plans and limits.

How many items does Feed Control pull in each time it checks a feed?

Each time it checks a feed, Feed Control compares the first 15 items in the source feed with the items it already has. Any new ones are added.

How many feed items does Feed Control store for each feed?

Feed Control keeps the 100 most recent items for each feed, and deletes older items as new ones arrive. The full article content is kept for the 50 most recent items; older items keep their title and summary. See Managing feed items.

How many items are included in my generated feeds?

10 by default (20 with the Flipboard template). You can change this with Number of items to include on the Generate RSS/JSON tab, up to your plan's maximum: 10 on Basic, 20 on Plus and 50 on Business. See Generating RSS or JSON.

Why did an item I deleted come back?

If a deleted item is still in the source feed, Feed Control adds it again the next time it checks the feed. To keep an item out of your feed, hide it instead: on the Feed Items tab, select it and choose Change visibility > Hidden - ignore feed filters. See Managing feed items.

Why does my feed say "Feed disabled."?

You have more feeds than your plan allows. The feeds you added first keep updating, up to your plan's limit; the others stop updating until you delete some feeds or upgrade. See Plans and limits.

Can I export my feeds?

Yes. On the Feeds screen, click Export and choose Export as CSV or Export as OPML. If you've ticked feeds in the list, only those are exported; otherwise all your feeds are.

  • The CSV file lists each feed's name, title, source URL, main settings and generated RSS and JSON URLs.
  • The OPML file is for feed readers and other tools that import OPML. Each feed points to its generated RSS URL if RSS output is turned on, and to its source URL if it isn't.

Does Feed Control work with private or login-only sites?

Only partly. Feed Control fetches feeds and articles from its own servers without logging in, so a source feed that needs a login won't work.

For full-text extraction, a site config can send extra headers with each article request, including a cookie header. That's useful when article pages only need a cookie, for example to get past a consent page. See Full-text extraction.

Plus and Business plans: you can't add a new site config on Basic.

Monitoring

How will I know if something stops working?

The Event Logs screen records every feed check, full-text extraction, upload and delivery, with the reason for any failure. You can also turn on a daily email that lists anything that failed. See Event logs and Failure notifications.

How long are event logs kept?

14 days. Older events are deleted automatically each day.

Integrations

What happens if my webhook endpoint is down?

Failed deliveries are retried automatically: up to 3 attempts in all, about an hour and then about two hours apart. If the last attempt fails, the delivery is marked Failed in Event Logs, and you can retry it yourself once your endpoint is back. Every attempt carries the same Idempotency-Key header, so your endpoint can ignore repeats. See Event logs and Request and payload reference.

Can I use Slack or Discord on the Basic plan?

No. The Basic plan includes one active webhook connection. Slack and Discord need the Plus or Business plan. See Plans and limits.
